Dubai Turns to Crypto for Seamless Public Payments

In an effort to boost digital innovation, Dubai’s Department of Finance has announced a partnership with Crypto.com to allow crypto payments for government service fees. The change represents a digital milestone.

The memorandum was signed between top officials and Mohammed Al Hakim of Crypto.com UAE during the Dubai FinTech Summit. It signals Dubai's forward-thinking stance in financial technology integration.

Once operational, individuals and businesses will be able to pay government service fees directly from their Crypto.com wallets. This includes essential services such as utility bills and public parking.

To ensure financial compliance, Crypto.com will convert all crypto payments into Emirati dirhams and route them to Dubai’s finance department, offering users convenience without sacrificing transparency.

A Crypto.com spokesperson noted this service would cover a wide range of public sector payments, reflecting the increasing role of cryptocurrency in mainstream financial systems across the UAE.

This is part of Dubai’s broader goal to become a fully digital economy. The city’s “Cashless Strategy” seeks to have 90% of transactions digital by the year 2026.

Al Hakim praised the initiative as globally unique, reinforcing Dubai’s place on the map as a serious player in crypto regulation and digital finance leadership.
